In and Around Laredo

Downtown Laredo
Downtown Laredo is home to numerous historic buildings that were once convents, schools and centers of government. San Agustin Plaza, for example, which is directly across the street from La Posada, is a romantic square that is the heart of Laredo and formerly site of the city's founding in 1755. All are located just five to 15 minutes driving time from La Posada Hotel.

Following is a sampling:

Benavides-Vidaurri House
Built in 1874 and originally served as a U.S. Customs House.

Jarvis Plaza
Serves as a shrine to our fallen war heroes. Its hallmark is an Eternal Flame for soldiers lost in combat.

Laredo Center for the Arts
Founded in 1993 in an historic building from the 1880s originally built to accommodate a market, city hall and theater for the performing arts. Hosts numerous artistic and cultural events such as international art exhibitions, dance performances, art history lectures, musical performances and art classes.

St. Peter's Catholic Church
This German-Victorian structure boasts original stained glass windows and detailed wooden rafters. The church is the anchor for Laredo's second oldest section, St. Peter's neighborhood, with Victorian-style homes and antebellum mansions.

Webb County Courthouse
Recently restored to its original grandeur, it boasts graceful archways, stained glass and arched lamps.
